The Annex Recreation Center

This project is designed to integrate seamlessly with its surrounding environment while prioritizing accessibility and community connection. Guided by passive strategies such as solar orientation and prevailing southwest winds, the program is largely placed below grade to ensure universal access without reliance on stairs. A central axis connecting Broadway Street to California Avenue organizes circulation, while a 1:12 sloped walkway provides accessible access to the Olympic-sized pool. Cooling gardens and landscaped areas throughout the site support natural ventilation, shading, and user comfort.

Bridging Over LA

This project explores bridges as elevated horizontal connections that move people through dense urban space. In contrast to Downtown Los Angeles’ dominant vertical landscape, the design introduces accessible horizontal links that reshape movement and circulation. Located near Angels Flight in the historic Bunker Hill district, the project engages a site shaped by layers of infrastructure and redevelopment. Angels Flight, first built in 1901 and relocated in 1996, continues to connect Hill Street and California Plaza as both a functional transit link and cultural landmark.
